Zminijietna - Voice of the Left PR: Zminijietna supports the right of prisoners to vote Zminijietna – Voice of the Left is of the opinion that prisoners be granted the right to vote in all elections, a right which has been denied till now. We belief, that all prisoners should have the right to cast their vote with the exception of those who are civilly interdicted by the juristic system. “A reformed and modern penal system should include this right as this will help in the rehabilitation and reintegration of the prisoner into civil society. Presently eighteen European countries have no restrictions on prisoners voting while in France and Germany a decision to disenfranchise a prisoner is left to the courts.” Zminijietna – Voice of the Left believes that the introduction of this vote will also aid Members of Parliament to genuinely take more interest in the rehabilitation and reformation of the penal system. We appeal the media to be more sensitive on this issue as we are highly concerned that it might find strong resistance from certain sections of the population because of the stigma that is given to prisoners. The local Ngo Mid-‘Dlam ghad-Dawl’ argues also in favour of this right. David Pisani Stqarrija Stampa: Żminijietna tappoġġja d-dritt tal-vot għall-priġunieri. "Sistema riformata u moderna tal-ħabs għandha tinkludi dan id-dritt. Dana jgħin fir-riabilitazzjoni u re-integrazzjoni ta' l-priġunier fis-soċjetà ċivili. Bħalissa tmintax il-pajjiż Ewropej joffru dan id-dritt lill-priġunier filwaqt li fi Franza u l-Ġermanja d-deċiżjoni titħalla f'idejn il-qrati”. Żminijietna – Leħen ix-Xellug temmen li l-introduzzjoni tal-vot jgħin ukoll biex il-Membri Parlamentari jieħdu nteress ġenwin fil-politika ta’ riabilitazzjoni u r-riforma tal-ħabsijiet. |
