Zminijietna - Voice of the Left Balluta Car Park proposal: Public transport the way forward Zminijietna – Voice of the Left participated at the public meeting organised by the St Julian’s Local Council regarding the proposal for a car park beneath Balluta Square. “Our concerns were mostly related to the St Julian’s local plan for that area, and the outdated information presented to the public regarding the proposed car park.” It is alarming that the local council, did not consider the public transport reform before proposing a carpark in the Balluta area. Zminijietna finds it surprising that the reform was not even mentioned by the local council during the public meeting as an alternative option for traffic congestion. Instead the proposal to build a new carpark appeared to have taken priority focus. Zminijietna questions why reference was constantly made to the local plan by the architect working for the local council when the Local Plans need to be revised to include the public transport reform. "We urge the Local Council to withdraw this unsustainable proposal and urge MEPA to revise the local plans for that area in parallel with the government’s holistic public transport reform.” concluded Zminijietna - Voice of the left David Pisani Balluta Car Park proposal: Public transport the way forward Zminijietna – Voice of the Left participated at the public meeting organised by the St Julian’s Local Council regarding the proposal for a car park beneath Balluta Square. “Our concerns were mostly related to the St Julian’s local plan for that area, and the outdated information presented to the public regarding the proposed car park.” It is alarming that the local council, did not consider the public transport reform before proposing a carpark in the Balluta area.
